THERE IS NO NOW IN WAITING
Waiting for the dentist’s assault,
my breathing grinds to a halt,
I tighten up, anticipating pain.
A metallic taste is in my mouth.
Suddenly,
I sense subtle movements of my breath.
My tongue lets go.
No longer waiting,
I’m now in the dentist’s chair.
Now.
